Headache and Migraine Relief – Causes and Natural Solutions
I have suffered from headaches and migraines for as long as I can remember. My father has told me that when I learned to talk as a baby, one of the first things I learned to say was that my head hurt. I grew up taking fairly large amounts of acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Motrin) regularly for pain. Although I really don’t like putting drugs in my body, I find that when it comes to severe pain, I turn to whatever brings relief.
The problem with headaches and migraines is that it is difficult to determine why they occur. Sometimes it’s obvious; your head is trapped by sinus pressure, or you fell and hit your head pretty hard. Most of the time, however, they creep up on you over the course of a few hours, until you eventually reach the point where any movement, noise, or bright light feels like a hammer to your head.
Years of painkillers have caused me liver damage. I don’t blame them because I’ve chosen to put them in my body on many occasions and I’m sure I’ll do it in a moment of agony. They mostly help with the pain and sometimes we just need to get to the next moment to move on.
But they don’t always help. Truth be told, I haven’t found anything, drug or natural, that completely eliminates my migraines every time. However, I’ve found that with an arsenal of potions, one of them is sure to work for whatever headache I’m having at the time. Maybe one of them will help you.
Overlooked causes of headache:
Low blood sugar
High / low blood pressure
Low circulation
Toxic bloodstream
Dilated blood vessels
Do you notice the connection between headaches and blood? Hmmm

Sinus congestion Headaches
Peppermint oil can be used in many ways.
Peppermint Oil #1
The easiest is to just put a few drops in the palm of your hand, dab it over your mouth and nose and take several deep breaths. This contributes to clogging.
Peppermint oil #2
I generally apply peppermint oil directly to the scalp, right where the pain is. Where it hurts the most is where I apply it. But I also put a little in the palm of my hand and dab a little on my fingertip to apply above my eyebrows, behind my ears to my jawline and all over my neck.
Be careful not to get it in your eyes or use your dabbing finger to rub your eyes later. If you get a little, just remove some vegetable oil and gently apply it to the burning area. This will stop the burning almost immediately.
Peppermint oil #3
I know people who have gotten rid of headaches with a single drop of peppermint oil on the back of their head. It hasn’t worked for me, but I’ve met too many people for whom it has to be skeptical.
Peppermint oil #4
Mix a drop of peppermint oil into the shampoo and then again into the conditioner. The foam helps the oil spread easily all over the head. The sting feels so good I don’t want to rinse it out. It feels great even if you don’t have a headache, but if you do, it’s just heavenly.
Peppermint oil #5
Inhale: rub the tip of the nose, breathe deeply. Apply evenly to the forehead and temples, cheekbones, across the bridge of the nose and around the ears.
Roman chamomile oil
Apply to any point on your face and neck, basically anywhere you feel sinus pressure. It’s never worked for me personally, but we’re all built differently.
Low blood sugar
Check your blood sugar. If it is between 60 and 70, a mild headache may occur. If it’s between 50 and 60, you’re more likely to have a full-blown headache, feel weak, tired, and irritable. My best friend gets headaches whenever her blood sugar drops. For me he is lucky because as soon as he eats the headache goes away.
Migraine and liver
Using the theory that migraines are related to the liver, target the liver and head areas of your legs. Apply a few drops of Valor essential oil all over your feet, paying particular attention to the backs of your big toes, rubbing it in firmly. Rub a drop or two of M-Grain on the back of the big toe and under the nail. The brain point is on the big toe.
The liver point is on the right leg. If you find the middle of your foot (without the toes) and move towards the part you are stepping on, rub that area. I rub a drop of M-Grain here as well, rubbing it in rhythmically for a few minutes. It’s easier to rub in with a few drops of olive oil.
Then massage M-Grain Liver into 3 points on the top of the foot, from the big toe to the next toe, all the way out to the ankle. Run your finger between these bones, rubbing in the oil.
Chemical headache
Toxins from chemicals, such as paint fumes, can cause headaches. Inhaling an essential oil such as peppermint oil can help restore balance. Oil diffusion is particularly effective here.
Dilated blood vessels
Caffeine constricts blood vessels. Sometimes just drinking coffee or coke can help with migraines.
Other things to try:
Fresh wheatgrass juice
Fresh celery juice
Thieves essential oil blend
Put one drop on your thumb and press your mouth to the roof
Lavender oil and peppermint oil
Apply a drop of lavender oil to your temples and neck. Spread a layer of peppermint oil on top of the lavender. Sometimes the combination is stronger than the individual.
Grapefruit oil
By itself, it doesn’t do anything for me. However, when I layer it on top of other oils, it enhances the effects of the other oils.
Here’s another recipe for pain [http://www.healthyaromas.com/pain_control.php], in general. But it can knock you out, so don’t take it until you’re home and can rest. Valerian is classified as a mild sedative and has a calming effect on the body. It’s called “nature’s Valium” for a reason.
20 drops of valerian oil
10 drops of Helichrysum oil
3 drops of clove oil
3 drops of peppermint oil
Fill one or two empty capsules, depending on the size of the capsule, with these oils and swallow with a glass of water.
