Your New Year Goals – 11 Action Steps To Year-Round Success
Like most, when you think back to the beginning of this year, I bet you set a lot of New Year’s goals.
Maybe this was the year you were going to finally lose weight and get in shape, start your own business, get a promotion, or meet the partner of your dreams.
Well, as this year is almost coming to an end, how have you been?
Did you make them and see them through?
Did you achieve them relatively easily and thus set yourself more challenging goals?
Or did you just bomb out and accomplish nothing or achieve very little of what you thought you could?
If you’re the latter, don’t beat yourself up. Acknowledging these flaws is the first giant step towards creating positive change in your life.
The problem with setting New Year’s goals is that we always make initial promises to ourselves that things will be different.
We promise ourselves that we will be more focused, disciplined and motivated to achieve our goals, but within a few months or even weeks we repeat the same behaviors that have brought us so much frustration and failure in previous years. .
The great Albert Einstein famously said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”
How can you create change in your life and achieve more of your goals if you act and behave the same way?
Your results change when you change.
If you really want to accomplish your New Year’s goals, you must and must be willing to take a different and more effective approach.
We all set goals big and small throughout the year, so we don’t need the start of the new year to pull out our goal-setting hats and notepads.
But the new calendar year has a psychological effect that gives us more focus and motivation; and in some ways a chance to wipe clean and give us a fresh start after last year’s failures.
This attitude is especially common in the case of “consecutive goal-setting failures,” but goal-achievers and high achievers never look for a fresh start; they simply build on their past successes, build more and more momentum, and thereby achieve bigger and better results.
So do you want to break the habit of using the dawn of the new year as a time to wipe clean and start over and set new and exciting goals that will keep you moving forward to experience better results in your life?
As I mentioned before, the reason so many of us never achieve our New Year’s goals is because we stick to the same old approach in our behavior and actions.
This New Year we turn over a new page. We’re starting to implement a new approach that will see you steadily move forward day by day, month by month, year by year towards the achievement of your most cherished goals.
Here are the steps to achieve your New Year’s goals and achieve success in your life:
1) Don’t bite off more than you can chew:
Start small. Choose small goals that you can achieve in a short period of time. Once you’ve achieved them, you can then create others for yourself.
Also limit yourself to 3 or 4 goals at a time. The majority can potentially overwhelm you and cause you to lose focus.
2) Write down your goals
Writing down your goals is a great way to stay focused and motivated to achieve them.
Writing them down also gives them more clarity and purpose in what you want to achieve and where you want to go in life.
3) Share it with someone
Communicating your goals to a close friend, family member, or mentor will make you more accountable and involve you in achieving them.
Telling someone will also motivate you to do whatever it takes to achieve your goal, avoiding the embarrassment of having to admit to them that you didn’t stick to your plan.
4) Post them.
Post your goals in a place where you can see them regularly, such as the refrigerator door, bathroom mirror, or above your computer screen.
Constantly looking at your list of goals will remind you of what you want to achieve and what you’re aiming for.
5) Read them aloud.
Make it a ritual to read your goals at least once a day. Read them with emotion and feeling and also try to visualize your success in achieving them.
Doing this will keep you motivated and eager to move forward again, but it is also a way of imprinting into your subconscious mind what you want to achieve in your life.
6) Take action
Take inspired actions every day that will ensure you move forward toward your goal. Every step you take brings you closer to what you want in life.
7) Review your progress.
Every night, review your goals and ask yourself if you did everything possible that day to get you where you want to be. If you see that you haven’t, make the necessary changes the next day to make your activities as productive as possible
8) Find an expert
An expert can be a coach, mentor or just a friend who has achieved the goals and success you are striving for.
Having someone like this to turn to can help you deal with the setbacks, challenges, and mental blocks you often encounter. They also keep you focused and motivated on your goals.
9) Validate your success
Create positive affirmations that you can use to replace the nagging negative self-talk you often hear in your head.
If you notice a voice in your head questioning or doubting your ability to achieve your goals, immediately replace it with a clear positive affirmation.
10) Reward yourself.
When you reach a milestone or achieve a specific goal, don’t forget to reward yourself. Make sure you celebrate all your successes, big or small. It makes you feel good about yourself and inspires you to achieve greater things.
11) Achieve more
Finally, once you’ve achieved your goals and rewarded yourself enough, immediately set new goals and simply repeat the process.
As I mentioned at the top of this article, high achievers build on their past successes so that they can achieve even greater results.
Follow these eleven steps to success and your New Year’s goals, and I’m sure you’ll celebrate an approach and formula that will bring you endless results not only next year, but for years to come.
