The Pink Sheets Guy

I finished collage in the early 80s, which makes me a dinosaur, I guess, but at least a dinosaur with memories. One of the memories I took away from the collage, which I didn’t fully understand until the last five years, was the mantra of one of my economics professors who repeatedly told me, along with the rest of the class, that “… In the future, society will be divided into digital symbol manipulators and burger flippers. We thought always what the hell the old man was talking about, and never thought much of it. After all, wouldn’t society need a large number of players between these two extremes? This was long before I had heard of Pink Sheets stocks or Richard Bond.

Times are changing. Nobody can predict the future. Who would have thought that a good old boy from Texas would end up living in Las Vegas and working for a young man from New York whom people call the “Pink Sheets Guy”? After meeting the Pink Sheets Guy, I began to understand why the future belonged to a new breed of entrepreneur; digital symbol manipulator. The last century proved that while the traditional standard of wealth, land ownership, would never disappear, new generators of wealth developed with the advancement of technology. Oil, manufacturing, media, pharmaceuticals, the list of new wealth creators was expanding rapidly. Twenty years before the start of the new century, the creation of the personal computer ushered in the information age. The age of the digital symbol manipulator. The era of online trading, the era of Pink Sheets stocks and traders focused on Pink Sheets stocks.

Although the computer was released in the information age, it was the Internet, with its easy access to information, that allowed the emergence of individuals who could create wealth simply by interpreting digital symbols—reading to understand information or data—and acting on it. – also read as manipulation – and benefit from it. The best examples of this formula are individuals who trade stocks online, using information gathered online to make decisions about when they want to buy and trade. The best personal example I know of this entrepreneurial new bread is my colleague and friend Richard Bond.

As I wrote before, no one can predict the future, I certainly couldn’t, and who knows if I would have known in advance that I would be taking orders from a man twelve years my junior, a guy who wears me out with his. energy, maybe I would have tried to choose a different path in life. I might have taken a different path, and I might have been a lot less happy about it.

Richard is, in my opinion, the quintessential digital symbol manipulator. I don’t mean that as an insult; I mean, he’s a testament to what my collage professor had said. Richard moved to Las Vegas in 2002 after driving from New York in a battered old Dodge Dart with two suitcases containing everything he owned in the world. He was looking for a way to rebuild his life. He had studied for a year at the University of Albany’s business school, but could not afford to continue his education and had taken a low-paying job at a brokerage firm in New York. He was confused until a girl dumped him (don’t know if he remembers her name, I don’t) and decided to make a big life change.

When he first arrived in Vegas, he lived out of his car until he made enough money to pay rent on a one-bedroom apartment. It was in this squalid place that he founded Richard Bond & Associates in 2004, buying and selling Pink Sheets stock over the Internet. At the end of 2004, he started looking for partners. I met him at the Las Vegas Convention Center during a trade show and was so impressed with his energy and knowledge that I started gambling with him. A decision I have never regretted, maybe I will wait one day. By the end of 2005, Richard had made himself rich several times over and made his partners very comfortable. He had established himself as one of the new bread of digital symbol manipulator entrepreneurs.

Last year he wrote a book explaining Pink Sheets stocks and I have to admit that:

“The Pink Sheets: The Ultimate Guide to Making Money with Pink Sheets Stocks”

illustrates my professor’s prediction. Those who can learn to understand the images and data of information become rich and comfortable, those who can’t or won’t learn are destined to flip burgers.
