Is Your Health And Wellness Really That Important To You? Then Do Something About It!

I think it’s safe to say that we all want to live healthier lives and make better lifestyle choices that improve our overall health and well-being. Maybe that’s why so many rush to anything or everything that offers “instant” health and wellness with virtually no effort or expense. The maxim “Too good to be true” usually means just that something is too good to be true.

How much time and fortune has been spent on gym memberships or newly discovered tonics, potions and “drinks” with sometimes crazy and unsubstantiated claims or even “magical” once-a-day pills that promise incredible results?

Gyms are great, and if you need physical strengthening or cardiovascular repair, they are a good way to go. A doctor can often prescribe gym activities. Usually, however, building the physical body alone without gathering the necessary nutrients for the body simply does not work in the long run.

Conversely, for most people, nothing to increase their physical activity will work, just eating healthy foods.

Being physically “lazy” or nutritionally “lazy” will not give you the healthiest lifestyle you could wish for. Some people are sad to say that they are both.

So what is the answer to total health and wellness? Unfortunately, there is no single answer. It is with methodical and purposeful decisions and steps, one by one, that we can achieve improvement in our health.

Easy to say, but perhaps difficult to implement. Total health and wellness involves what I call a holistic approach. A holistic approach to everything in life will pay off in the end.

For that, I don’t recommend you join a gym or eat only hydroponic foods. (Try to find “organic” chicken these days).

I recommend taking stock of your lifestyle, at least from a health perspective. This list should include:

Daily amount of food: which includes categories such as fat, carbohydrates, fiber, sugar, etc. (There are some great websites that offer free nutrition calculators and total food intake)

Daily fluid intake: check how much water, coffee, tea, sweetened beverages, alcoholic beverages you drink.

Food supplements: Add any vitamins, minerals, combinations, multipurpose supplements, etc.

Physical activity: Show all the activities you do during the day, whether they are purposeful for exercise or just everyday life.

Contributors to stress: List all the things in your current lifestyle that add stress and strain to you physically, emotionally, and relationally. These can include illness or disability, separation or divorce or the loss of a loved one, and more.

I’d love to be able to quantify all of the above, give them numbers, and put them into a “healthier lifestyle” matrix so you can see exactly where you are and where you want to be.

It’s not that simple. I believe we all know the basics of how to improve our health and well-being, but we may lack the will or the precise knowledge in certain areas to make better decisions.

Find the areas you know you are lacking or excelling in and resolve to change them – one step at a time, one item at a time.

I know that since I’ve started making small incremental changes in all of these areas, my overall health and well-being has improved. I’m retired, I’m semi-retired and I don’t make a lot of physical effort in my daily walk.

But I’ve joined a senior camp twice a week for one hour, changed my diet significantly, and regularly take a combination of proven supplements that have significantly reduced my dependence on some of my medications, and I’ve benefited from all of the above. .

Of course, consult your doctor, see your naturopath, but ultimately, take it upon yourself to “get off the couch” and improve your health and well-being if it’s truly important to you.

(Note: This article does not make any medical claims and you are advised to consult your healthcare professional before changing any prescribed medication)
