How Many Vaccines at One Time Are Too Many?

In his 2002 article Pediatrics,Dr. Paul Offit (1) states that an extrapolated mathematical formula showed that children could be vaccinated with thousands of vaccines without harm. “Each infant would have the theoretical ability to respond to about 10,000 vaccines at once.” (2)

It seems that Dr. Offit should conduct a review of human immunology. The idea that 10,000 doses of chemicals, viruses and bacterial particles can enter the bloodstream of an infant or adult without consequence defies medical logic. Direct injection of pathogens into the body bypasses four immune defense systems: skin, mucous membranes, intestinal lymphoid tissue, and neutralization of the lymphatic system. Contrary to what pharmaceutical companies claim, the introduction of microbes and chemicals into the bloodstream does not “trick” the immune system, as doctors and scientists claim. It pollutes it.

In fact, by six months of age, babies are contaminated with up to 51 vaccine antigens. If they receive all recommended vaccine doses, including annual flu shots and MMR and chickenpox boosters, that number jumps to 113 by the time they enter school. And that number doesn’t take into account the measurable amounts of formaldehyde, aluminum, calf serum, gelatin, and other chemical aliquots injected into each vaccine.

Potential disaster as both live and weakened (killed) viruses are injected on the same day with multiple vaccinations. A study documenting that these dangers are real was published in 1986 Scientific journalsounded the alarm more than twenty years ago.

The study involved injecting two different avirulent (benign) herpes viruses, virus A and virus B, into the feet of mice. If the mouse got 100 particles either Virus A or virus B, none of the mice died. But if the mouse only got one particle both Virus A and virus B killed 62 percent of the mice.(3) In addition, eleven newly created viruses, called recombinants, were isolated from the dead mice. When these new viruses were injected into subsequent mice, three of the viruses were found to be lethal. This study shows that simultaneous injection of two benign viruses can recombine with lethal results.(4)

Offit claimed that 10,000 vaccines could be injected simultaneously without consequence. If only two different viruses can kill mice, what would be the potential effect of injecting thousands? Children are routinely injected with four viruses at the same time they are vaccinated on the same day with the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps and rubella) and Varivax® (chicken pox vaccine). It is clear that the risk of health complications is greater than the theoretical possibility.

Offit’s study was considered “groundbreaking” and received considerable media attention at the time of its publication. His goal was to allay the fears of vaccine-skeptic parents who question the need to inject so many vaccines at once. Using a mathematical formula to claim that infants have a high capacity to be a reservoir of a medicinal product does not eliminate the doubts of inquiring parents. “Thinking doctors” should recognize this study for what it is: an opportunity to push the oft-repeated mantra that “vaccines are safe and effective.”

But “thinking parents” may conclude otherwise: “If the immune system is so strong, why do we even need to vaccinate?”
