Interstitial Cystitis, Plumb Square And Level

There are several articles describing interstitial cystitis (IC) and treatment. If you are reading this article, you know what it is; I will simply say that it is a chronic inflammation of the wall of the bladder, accompanied by spasms of the bladder and at times debilitating pain; no definite medical treatment has been found. It affects men and women.

There are many alternative treatments that people with this disease have found on their own that work for them and get relief. You try them and no relief. The main thing is “they work for them”. This may be due to the fact that each person’s chemical composition is different. This may also be why not everyone has the same symptoms.

Seven years ago I was walking and was suddenly seized with gut-wrenching pain in my pelvis/groin area. I could barely walk back home because the pain was excruciating. I sat in the hot tub and felt relieved. A few days later the pain struck again and for a longer time; back to the hot tub, again temporary relief.

This was 2 years before I was diagnosed with IC. First I was diagnosed with rectal cancer and uterine, bladder and rectal prolapse. We really thought the pain was from anal cancer. I had surgery, the cancer is gone, the pain is still there.

I did some research and decided that the problem might be the IC. My urologist said it was a “fad” and he didn’t believe it. After he performed the cystoscopy, he quietly informed me that my bladder was inflamed and eroded in some places. He had also taken biopsies to make sure it wasn’t cancer.

Conventional drugs did not help. I tried alternative treatments and a strict diet regimen. My main relief was a hot tub and getting an adjustment from a chiropractor. Because of the pain, I couldn’t go to the gym every day anymore. Cranberry juice, which worked for urinary tract infections, made the IC worse.

Another option is to inject Botox into the bladder. It paralyzes the bladder to stop bladder spasms, which are the source of the pain. I didn’t think of that possibility, not for me.

Plumb Square and Level is the best pain reliever

My husband was a contractor and was disabled due to a back injury. He always called Plumb Square and staying Level the best pain reliever.

I thought about what he had said and looked at my posture, definitely not what he would call Plumb Square and Level. I stretched back to the old military attention position, head up, shoulders back, stomach and buttocks tucked in. I couldn’t believe the difference, not the cure, but the difference.

I also started noticing what activity seemed to help, what made it worse, what I ate and what my system was doing.

My biggest relief is maintaining a plumb square and level position when standing, walking or sitting. I also take B6 and magnesium every morning. During flare-ups I can take it every 4 hours. If I’m going to do a strenuous activity, I do it as a preventative measure before starting that activity.

Keep a journal: write everything down

  • Any other medical problems you have
  • The foods you eat and drink
  • The activity you perform
  • Which makes it worse
  • Which makes it better
  • When and how often you urinate
  • If the pain worsens

Aloe Vera juice

Aloe Vera soothes and calms the mucous membranes. It seems to balance the body and help reduce cystitis and calms bladder spasms.

Limit salt and acids

Salt and vinegar are the culprits that cause problems. If your bladder is inflamed and eroded, salt and vinegar won’t help. Think of it as putting salt on an open wound. WOW!

An acidic body causes many health problems. Try to reduce the consumption of acidic products. Try limiting or eliminating different foods and see if that makes a difference.

The emergency measure I do when nothing else works is to take ½ teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in a glass of water, let it sit for a minute and then drink. It usually starts to reduce bladder spasms after 20 minutes.

Baking soda is sodium, salt, I stopped using it. Plumb Square and Level will work instead. I still go back to my old pose from time to time and notice spasms. I go Plumb Square and Level and the pain goes away.

Kegel for men and women

Kegel exercises are also helpful, men, this is for you too as it strengthens the bladder.

Common constipation or IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) can cause IC; if the rectum falls or prolapses, it can cause IC. This can be caused by a prolapsed uterus or if the uterus is located in the bladder.

I have surgery every few months to check if the cancer has come back since I refused chemo and radiation. Surgery causes exacerbation of IC. After surgery, I go to a chiropractor for adjustments and cold laser treatment. Cold laser therapy provides immediate relief by treating inflammation and helping the entire area to heal faster. Cold laser also helps with IC inflammation and reduces bladder spasms.

I own a farm and drive (bump) a large tractor and lift over 25 lbs. These two things cause back pain and flare up of IC. Every now and then it’s enough pain that I have to go for an adjustment. My L3-4 to S1-2 are out of place, even the slightest bit out of place, the IC kicks in. These vertebrae contain nerve roots that go to the bladder.

When this happens, I ice my lower back until I can get in and see my chiropractor; alternate between staying in and out every 30 minutes until the pain subsides.

If I ice the lower back and the pain persists and the back doesn’t feel out of place, the next step is heat. I put a heating pad so I can sit on it and put it on my lower back too. I have another heating pad for my lower abdomen and pelvis/groin area. Relief comes from 30 minutes to a couple of hours, depending on how severe the pain is. Another option is to go to a hot tub if you have one.

Ride a car, motorcycle, lawnmower, or whatever, try to stay level to minimize problems.

Research shows that lifting weights can cause bladder spasms. Find out what your weight limit is.

  • Reduce the use of salt and acidic products
  • Kegel exercises
  • Find your weight limit and stick to it
  • Alternate the ice on the lower back for 30 minutes on and off until the pain subsides
  • Heating pads for sitting, lower back and lower abdomen or for entering the hot tub
  • Try B6 and magnesium (the best combination that I find works is Formula 303 with Stress plus which has all the Bd in it. You can buy them online from Earth Turns, I’m not affiliated with them.)

Remember that we all have different chemistry, not all of them may work for you. Plumb Square and Level seems to work for everyone I know who has tried it.

You need to try different treatments, record what you take and what works and what doesn’t. Ultimately, you have to figure out what works best for your system.
